Radio Care | Resonant Futures

resonant ecologies

During a week’s long trip in Nantes, FR, Marinos Koutsomichalis facilitated a 2-day workthop / training school, participated in roundtables, gave a talk on “radio care”, and improvised live with Radio-Noise Collective and Alexandra Niaka employing DIY antennas and instrument from the post-human radio project. The first day of the training school is devoted to a hands-on exploration of human or more-than-human radio broadcasts. Participants are guided to explore different bands of the radio spectrum and listen to the signals, interferences, noises, and modulations found within. More, they build their own DIY antennas, capacitors, coils, AM radio receivers, ‘crystal’ radios, other experimental apparatuses. During the second day of the workshop, Alexandra Niaka guides the participants into building a resonant reactive virtual 3D environment employing point clouds and 3D scans of the various artefacts built on the first day. To boot, he did a short field trip so as to explore the Bay of Biscay and the broader Pays de la Loire region.

A performance follows with radio care workshop participants, the Radio Noise Collective, Alexandra Niaka and Marinos Koutsomichalis improvising live employing the technologies developed in Radio Care workshop.
