‘Syra Sonora’ is a sonic exploration of Syros island as collectively mediated during a field-recording workshop facilitated by Marinos Koutsomichalis in July 2014. Under the artist’s supervision, and for almost a week, the workshop participants collected all sorts of sounds based on their unique encounters with the island, their inhabitants, with one another, and with other resident artists. Marinos Koutsomichalis also engaged in several impromptu jam and recording sessions with other artists – most notably with Viv Corringham, Constantine Katsiris, and Nikos Ro. – employing field recordings from Syros, as well as miscellaneous instruments and objects. Several audio documents and compositions have surfaced these sessions.
